23 evangelism stories from last month!

The picture posted above is a picture of the evangelism team at Nightvision, one of the great times witnessing that we experienced last month (the story about Gabriel, posted below, happened at Nightvision). I posted the 17 evangelism ideas from the 1st month last week (you should check those out here) but forgot to post all the stories we shared last month. I figured it would be a good idea to put those stories up today! I hope you're getting an opportunity to apply the most recent ideas - the "top 10" idea and the "share with hundreds more right now" idea. I will be putting up a new idea today or tomorrow but thought it would encourage you to look back at a few of last month's stories. The one thing you can't miss when you read these stories is that all these people, regardless of their responses, needed Jesus and all of them were interested in Him! Idea: Share the Good News with hundreds or more right now!!!

A couple of weeks ago we posted the "share with your whole town" idea (writing a letter with the Gospel to the editor). You can see my example here. Writing a letter to the editor is a great idea but it takes a while and there is no guarantee it will get printed. The idea for today is to find a news story in your local paper that you could transition to the gospel from. Good options would be the economy, terrorism, any type of social issue or a host of others. The more controversial the story the more likely your comments will be read. Be creative and ask God to give you wisdom (James 1:5). Then, read the story, online, and post a comment at the end. You might have to create a login ID or leave your e-mail address but it is well worth it. You can see an example from an abortion article in the Durango Herald last week by clicking here. Read the comments. Look for the comments titled "Nate Says..." You will see my comments on the issue of abortion but also notice I included a presentation of the gospel in one of those posts. This is a super easy way to share the Good News with hundreds or thousands of people in a matter of seconds. Give it a shot and have a great day!!!

Evangelism idea: Your Top 10!

The idea for today is simple but very important! It has been called the "Divine Order." It goes like this, "first talk to God about people and then talk to people about God." Sounds simple but it is not often enough applied. The idea is to come up with a top 10 list. Sit down and brainstorm through your sphere of influence. Then, write out the names of at least 10 people you want to see saved. Begin praying for them every day. The more you pray for them, the more likely you will be to share with them too. "G" has been on my list since February 2008. She recently trusted Christ!!! One of the great joys of having a list like this is seeing those prayers answered and being able to take them off the list or move them to a new section!!! Just a side note: lists are not unspiritual. Paul would often write, as he did in Phil.1:4, "I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers." A list is just a memory aide for prayer. Don't make it more important than it is and obviously be flexible to pray as the Holy Spirit directs but do have a memory aide so you won't forget to be praying for those God has put in your sphere of influence! Remember Samuel's words in 1 Sam.12:23, "far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you." So today's idea: write out a list of at least 10 people you will begin praying for daily to come to know Christ. Also, begin praying daily that God would give you opportunities to share with them and others. Also pray daily that God will make you aware of opportunities to share (Col.4:5). 17 new ideas for sharing your faith!!!

Ashleigh Brilliant, a British author I know nothing about, said, “Good ideas are common - what's uncommon are people who'll work hard enough to bring them about." Our hope is to give you fresh ideas for sharing your faith; that's the small part. The extraordinary part is each of you that are putting these ideas into action. I wanted to put all the ideas from the blog's 1st month into one post for any of you that want to scan through and find some you didn't have a chance to do yet. They are all linked up here. Please feel free to add your stories as comments to any of these posts - let us know how the ideas are working out. The ideas are listed in descending order with the most recent (today's) listed 1st. I hope you'll get a chance to do that one today and I hope you'll have fun reviewing these others and getting to do any you haven't yet. Standing Together as One and Sharing the Good News!

Yesterday we applied Sunday's challenge here in Durango; it was amazing! I have prayed for years and longed for the day we would see Christians in Durango standing in unity and sharing the gospel together (Phil.1:27). Yesterday was just the beginning! It has been raining nearly every day this week and there were clouds yesterday morning. We prayed before, during and after church that God would hold the rain until after the evangelism time. No longer than 10 minutes after we finished the outreach it began poring! About 40 people showed up at Calvary International at 3:00 pm (The pictures on the left were taken at the end of the day, after a bunch of people had already left). There were people from the River Church, Calvary International, 1st Baptist and New Hope. We did a short evangelism training (on how to use the Soularium and KGP tools) and then split up all over town. Erich and I shared with "T" and "M" for about 45 minutes at the skate park. They were both at very different points in their own journeys but were very interested in Christ and the gospel. Pastor Dwight saw a couple making out and yelled, "Cut it out, your making me miss my wife." They laughed at his funny but very creative way of starting a conversation and he was able to share with them! One former inmate was able to share with a guy he knew when he was in prison. A friend who has served for years with Muslims prayed he would be able to meet one and ended up meeting and sharing with a Palestinian. A group from Calvary International (a spanish speaking church) shared Christ with the Hispanic people at a trailer park in town while another couple of groups hit up Main Street and witnessed to the tourists. One lady stayed back at the church and prayed for us as we shared! It was a great afternoon of sharing the Good News together. These stories and those I couldn't fit in here were awesome but the greatest the greatest thing that happened yesterday was Christians from all over town, from different backgrounds, denominations and churches spent the afternoon unified in prayer and action, witnessing together, standing as one to see our city won for Jesus!
