17 new ideas for sharing your faith!!!

Ashleigh Brilliant, a British author I know nothing about, said, “Good ideas are common - what's uncommon are people who'll work hard enough to bring them about." Our hope is to give you fresh ideas for sharing your faith; that's the small part. The extraordinary part is each of you that are putting these ideas into action. I wanted to put all the ideas from the blog's 1st month into one post for any of you that want to scan through and find some you didn't have a chance to do yet. They are all linked up here. Please feel free to add your stories as comments to any of these posts - let us know how the ideas are working out. The ideas are listed in descending order with the most recent (today's) listed 1st. I hope you'll get a chance to do that one today and I hope you'll have fun reviewing these others and getting to do any you haven't yet. Many of these will have stories of what happened when we applied the idea linked at the bottom. 1 Cor.3:9 says, "we are God's fellow workers..." You and God make a really good team. Evangelism idea - Tell your story!

Personal testimonies drive our economy. Case in point - want to dominate all you do and be the world's best like Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Thierry Henry? Just shave with a Gillette razor (see commercial here). Of course! Who didn't know those athletes dominated their sports because of their choices in morning hygiene? The idea for this weekend is to carefully put together your personal testimony - the story of what God has done in your life. It has been said that "a man with a testimony will never be at the mercy of a man with an argument." No one can deny what God has done in you. I mentioned the testimony tool in a previous idea about asking good questions (check it out here). Today we'll just be more intentional about putting it on paper and being ready to recount it at any moment. This will take a little bit of time but once you've done it you'll remember it for years to come. You will "always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." (1 Peter 3:15). Your testimony is a powerful tool. Remember the Samaritan woman (John 4) and the many people who believed because of her testimony (Jn.4:39). Remember the promise of Rev.12:11! So, wasting no more time, work through the testimony worksheet linked here and for more training on that check out the MP3 below. Do your best to carefully articulate who you were before Christ, the gospel, how you trusted Christ and what He has done since. He is the focus and this tool is just another way to share the Good News with people that desperately need Jesus. If you want a great Biblical example of a "3 minute testimony" check out Paul's strategic use of this tool, in court, in Acts 26. Don't be so hard on yourself!

I hope you are having a blast applying the most recent idea for sharing your faith. Asking people how they are doing and then, when they ask you, saying, "better than I deserve." It has been fun but awkward. I can't think of any reason not to respond that way as it is always opening up an opportunity. It didn't have the results I expected when Austin first shared this idea with me - but that is O.K. It is still a great habit to get into. Out of the 3 people I said this to, each of them laughed awkwardly and responded with something like, "Don't be so hard on yourself." We got to share with one of those 3 and it turns out she was a believer. The other 2 were very reluctant to go further. One of those was "M", (you will remember her from a previous story, an application of the grocery store evangelism idea). Anyway, it was a neat and creative conversation starter and I look forward to trying it more often. Did you try it out? Let me know. Share your comments about what happened. Evangelism idea for July 13-14th - Are you some kind of a jerk?

So the idea for today is a GREAT one. Austin Krokos came up with this. Before I go any further though, if you haven't read yesterday's post, you really need to - you can read it here and it will encourage you!!! You can also get the Nighvision concert evangelism workshop notes and MP3s by clicking here. So back to the idea for today - this one is SO simple and every one of you should try it out today. Ask a simple "leading question" (one that will likely result in the other person asking you the same thing) - "How are you?" They will most likely say, "Good. How about you?" After they ask how you are doing, simply say, "better than I deserve." They will be a bit shocked and will almost for sure ask why you say that (they will wonder if you are some kind of a jerk or a really bad person). You can simply tell them about the amazing and undeserved grace of God that you have received (Jn.1:16). This will inevitably open a door for you to share your testimony and the Good News (bring a KGP or 4 Law booklet). Be strategic and intentional. Pray and go, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and trust the results to God. Ask the question and then have a blast co-laboring with God (1 Cor.3:9)!

Nuestro Hermano Gabriel

Nightvision was great! We are drained but excited about all God did. We did the 2 evangelism workshops (the MP3s and notes are up!!! Get workshop 1 here and workshop 2 here) and then took a team of about 40 out sharing both Friday and Saturday. We had 12 people decide to put their trust in Christ and many more were very interested. It was a great time. The Evangelism idea for July 10-11 was to use the Soularium tool. We used this all day Saturday and 4 people put their trust in Christ after hearing the gospel during conversations that were initiated with this tool. I got into a conversation with Gabriel who didn't speak english. It was the most difficult evangelistic conversation I have had since the last time I shared in spanish (but harder because last time I had a spanish 4 Law booklet). Anyway, Gabriel prayed to receive Christ. I can only hope he adequately understood the gospel in spite of my rusty spanish. I will be putting him in contact with my hispanic evangelist friend, Gustavo! I truly felt COMPLETELY dependent on God during this conversation and am thankful God allowed me to be in a situation I truly had nothing to offer.
