18 Creative ways to reach your workplace for Christ

For many, the workplace is the sphere of influence God has strategically placed them in to make Him known! It is not a ministry to be shunned but rather a purpose to be embraced. You have an unbelievable opportunity to reach the people you work with every day for Christ. Your daily good attitude and Christlikeness will show them Christ in a way few will ever see.

That being said, here are a few practical workplace evangelism ideas. I hope you have a blast trusting God to use you in big ways at the office (or wherever you work) and I really hope these ideas help!

1. Put something on your door and/or walls that will point to Christ; then be ready to share when people ask. Make sure to change it up every so often to keep the conversations happening. While I was working in the office world I put the Passion of the Christ poster up (it was showing then) and it started a ton of conversations.

2. Talk good about your spouse. People will notice and ask why. Seriously, people can hardly believe it when you talk up your spouse and it is a great opportunity to tell them about the reason for your great relationship - Jesus!

3. Communicate your sense of purpose. Every Monday my co-workers would say, “another day another dollar” or something like that. Communicate your passion for serving God both at work and while away and you’ll find yourself sharing the reason for that purpose very often. Click here for more thoughts on that!

4. Talk good about your co-workers and boss. Avoiding the workplace gossip mill will speak volumes about your character and bring up opportunities to talk about why you respect those individuals.

5. Pray before your meals - it will get peoples’ attention and lead to evangelistic conversations.

6. Walk in integrity. Work hard. Don’t cheat. Don't live a hypocritical life. Once, some of my co-workers tried to get me to go to a strip bar. I wouldn't join them and it opened up a great opportunity to share why. Your Christ-like behavior will definitely point to Jesus - just make sure to speak the gospel as well (1 Peter 2:12).

7. Serve in your workplace. Replace the water, carpool to work, make coffee, clean messes, carry heavy loads, get the mail, etc. Basically, be the person in your office that does the small things that no one else will. It will speak volumes.

8. Start a lunch time Bible study. You could even do an evangelistic Bible study and invite your co-workers to join you. Get a great example here

9. Keep a Bible on your desk or in view wherever you happen to work. While in college, a co-worker at a snowboard shop saw my Bible and began asking about it. She put her trust in Christ, in tears, that night. She then brought her boyfriend to church, introduced him to me and he also became a Christian. Your Bible will open up a ton of conversations.

10. Wear a Christian t-shirt with an evangelistic message on casual fridays or whenever your job provides an opportunity for that. If that isn’t an option, wear a Christian bracelet or something that could spark a conversation. Check out more on that here

11. Be there to talk when co-workers are going through tough times and situations. Be relatable. Ask how people are doing. Take a genuine interest in their lives. Then, share the hope you have with them.

12. Listen to Christian radio and/or messages in the office, car or wherever people will have a chance to overhear you.

13. Invite your co-workers to church or some other Christian events where they will hear the gospel. Get more on that here

14. Bring Christ into conversations you're already having at work. Get more thoughts and teaching on this here and more here. Just use transition questions to work through the sound barriers to bring conversations about sports, movies, music, news or other issues back to Christ.

15. Ask how you can pray for a co-worker. Get more on that here

16. Brag on God: Tell your co-workers what God has done and is doing in your life. Check out Brag on God Fridays on beholdingglory.com. Share your testimony with your coworkers.

17. Give evangelistic gifts and/or cards at Christmas parties, going away parties and other celebrations. Get more on that here. This is one of our Christmas evangelism ideas

18. Put a verse or Christian quote on the signature portion of your workplace e-mails. People put all sorts of junk in their signatures - why not use that as an opportunity to share. You could also try some of the internet evangelism ideas we've shared in your workplace. Check those out here

The bottom line: if you're willing, God will open up huge opportunities for you to share Christ with your co-workers. Be respectful but do take the initiative! Love them like Christ does and they won't be able to wait to talk to you about Him! Have a blast reaching your sphere of influence for Christ!

Christmas Evangelism Idea #8: Reach Your Workplace this Christmas!

The workplace is the primary ministry many people are called to. Reaching your workplace for Christ can seem intimidating but with a few ideas and a little initiative it can be an incredible adventure and fulfilling opportunity. Check this post for a few ideas on reaching your workplace for Christ and keep your eyes open for more soon. I wanted to share a few ideas for reaching your workplace for Christ over Christmas.

First, a great way to reach your workplace for Christmas is to do a little decorating! Seriously. If you have an office put a few Christ centered Christmas cards, pictures or posters (check out these posters) in your office. You probably don't wan to go overboard with your decorating but can definitely be intentional about pointing to Christ with your office aesthetics. Even if you don't have an office, you could come up with creative ideas to bring Christ into your surroundings. Maybe it could be the Christmas music you play, a pin you wear or some other idea. A visible reference to Jesus in your office is a great way to share your faith this Christmas, in your workplace.

A second idea would be to carefully select Christmas cards that share the gospel for each of your co-workers. Get some ideas on that here.

A third idea would be to pick Christ centered gifts for your Christmas party. You could buy a Bible or some other gift that would encourage your co-workers towards Christ (check out these gift ideas). You could also give out gift bags and get to the gospel that way.

Fourth, do the Christmas Soularium with co-workers over your lunch break.

Fifth, help a co-worker out. With all the financial hardships going around I'm sure someone in your office is looking at a pretty bleak Christmas. Maybe you could help them get gifts for their children or find some other creative way to bless them.

Finally, say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. That seems like a no-brainer but could easily open up discussions with co-workers. Anyway, those are just a few and there are no doubt many more. Please let us know of any ideas you have for sharing with co-workers over Christmas. Have a blast trying out these ideas. Idea: National Back to Church Sunday!

Happy Tuesday after a long 3 day weekend (for some of you; we weren't "off" yesterday)! I hope you got a chance to check out yesterday's post - I think it really could transform your workplace. Today's idea may as well. This Sunday is National Back to Church Sunday. The idea for today is simple - invite people to church! Dr Thom Rainer says that "82% of the unchurched are at least somewhat likely to attend church if invited." You can get more stats like that here. Also, got to this article on evangelismcoach.org for even more ideas and stats (that's a post you can't miss)! Nobody will kill you for asking. Nearly every student we meet on campus says their family went to school when they were young but quit years ago. I imagine many of the people you find in your sphere of influence are just the same. If you ask them, they'll probably come. And it doesn't end there! After church, don't assume they're good. You will need to clarify the gospel. You could buy them lunch and over lunch ask good questions. "What stuck out most to you from the service today?" "What did you think when the pastor said .... " These questions will bring up a great conversation and if you are intentional you will be able to share the gospel with them. If you are a pastor, remember this weekend is "Back to Church Sunday" and make sure to incorporate the gospel into your message. Here's the challenge: sit down right now and right out 5 people you will ask to come with you to church this Sunday. Well, there will be more posts on this week. I hope you apply yesterday's post along with today's when you get back to work this morning. And if you're a college student, invite other students to church but also invite the to your college ministry get together as it will be a place for them to meet other students and it will likely be a bit more relevant to where they are at. Have a great day sharing the Good News guys!

Evangelism idea: Why do you do what you do?

Happy Labor Day!!! Why do you do what you do? Before working in full time ministry I was an Air Quality Specialist. Every week my wonderful co-workers would say over and over again, "another day another dollar." There was no guiding purpose in their careers. Career Vision states that in America, only 20 percent of people are passionate about their jobs, 33 percent believe they have reached a dead end in their career, 21 percent are eager to change careers and only 45 percent of workers are satisfied with their jobs. That being said, a lot of people out there are spending the majority of their time, energy and life on something they aren't passionate about. Most people are clueless about why they are here and what they are here for. Contrast that with the purpose God has created you for (Eph.2:10, Jer.29:11) and the abundant life found only in Him (Jn.10:10). For most of us the workplace is the biggest area God has called us to reach. Over an average lifetime most of us will spend 75,000 hours at work. That's 75,000 hours of opportunities given to us by God to reach this world for Him (Col.4:5). Remember He put you where you are, for this very time to reach your sphere of influence for Him (Acts 17:26-27). That brings us to the idea for today! This is so simple. Ask someone you meet today, or someone at work tomorrow, why they do what they do. If you are a college student ask someone you see today what they plan to do with their life and why. Listen to their answer. No matter what happens it will be great conversation starter and one that can easily be transitioned back to the Good News. When they ask you why you do what you do you can tell them about your life purpose! If you aren't to sure about that, or even if you are but just want some encouragement, check out the MP3 below this post for more on living a life of impact. As you discuss your life purpose remember to share the reason for that - Jesus in you (in fact, the 2 verses before Eph.2:10, the great verse on purpose listed above, discuss this - Check out Eph.2:8-9)! This is a great starting point for the gospel so go into your testimony or a presentation of the gospel from there. While we're on the topic of sharing Christ with your workplace, check out this great post at evangelism.net on "Modeling Christ at Work" and don't miss the "related posts" section at the bottom of that article for even more great ideas. Also check out www.atworkonpurpose.org a ministry dedicated to this very thing (and check out the video about them below). If you need more ideas, see if any of these will work in your workplace. Don't forget Ec.9:10, 1 Cor.10:31, Col.3:17 and 23! I hope you have a blast taking the initiative to reach your workplace for Jesus!
