Evangelism Idea - Tell a cashier a Bible verse

Today God gave me the coolest idea! A fun way to share scripture with a cashier!

I was buying dinner and my total came up to $8.38. The first thing that popped into my head was Romans 8:38-39
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord"
What a cool way to make the most of every opportunity like Colossians 4:5-6 tells us. Some other ones I thought would be good to share with:

Remember, ask God for opportunities and pray before you go. As soon as you get the total, just tell the cashier it reminds you of a verse you love and then say the verse.

God's word tells us it will not return void and our labor in him is not in vain. (Is 55:11; 1 Cor 15:58) Sharing the very words of God is one of the best tools to get into spiritual conversations and break through the sound barriers. It also motivates me to memorize more scripture so that I can really be ready at anytime!

Some similar evangelism ideas:
Leave your waitress a generous tip and some Good News (This is also a great opportunity to leave a verse!)

What other totals and verses would YOU use?

Japan!

Everyone is talking about Japan! What a tragedy. Before I go any further, please remember to pray for those in Japan and please donate to the relief effort. That being said, there are a lot of people all over the world wondering how something like this could happen. They are searching for hope! Some are asking how a good, loving and all powerful God could allow this (for great answers to that question, listen to our most recent episode of "The God Solution" by clicking here). Each one of us should be sharing the hope we have with them! A great way to get to the gospel in this situation would be to bring up Biblical prophecy about these types of issues. Earthquakes, tsunamis and much more are prophesied in scripture. God’s Word prophesies sickness and disease, earthquakes and famines, tsunamis and hurricanes, hail and fire will destroy most of earth’s plant life, some hail reaching up to 100 lbs, metorites, death of sea life, rivers turning into blood, hard core Global Warming, darkness, terrible drought (the Euphrates dries), the largest earthquake in history, islands and mountains will be devastated and eventually the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light; metorites will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken (in Mt.24, Mk.13, Lk.21, and Rev.6, 8, 9 and 16). Those prophesies can bring up a spiritual conversation which you can easily transition to the gospel. Probably even more important than that though, is to be able and ready to share the only Good News, God's love and hope, with those you happen to be talking to about this, especially if they have been personally impacted by this tragedy. You can get more ideas by checking out our post on transitioning to the gospel from anything in the news by clicking here. Also, for more on how to understand this and other end times phenomena, check out the MP3 below. Have a great day and don't forget to pray for Japan!

Blood Donation Evangelism

I met my friend "S" while giving blood a while back. I knew that instant God had been telling me to share with her. After giving blood we were both in the waiting room along with her partner and a few other people. As I transitioned through the sound barriers and shared the Good News I found that "S," like so many people, was searching for Jesus. After that I have made it a point to try to stop by her work place (a retail store), with Erin (my wife), to keep connecting with her and sharing with her. Yesterday I ran into her at the store. I asked, "What's new in your life?" She replied, "I started going to church." I asked her what led her to do that and she said, "I started reading the Bible and found out Jesus is a really nice guy." I don't think she's trusted him as Savior and Lord yet but she continued, saying, "I want to start doing jail ministry as well." I was shocked. Obviously God has been working in this precious young woman's heart and obviously He has big plans for her. Erin and I were racing to get home but I was floored. We said goodbye and came home to get the girls dinner but I haven't quit thinking about that conversation since. Jesus tells us the parable of the sower in Mt.13:1-23. Praise God for what He is doing long after that seed was sown. He will make it grow (1 Cor. 3:7) and His Word won't return void (Is.55:11). He is faithful! Do not get discouraged when you don't see "results" in evangelism. Do what Bill Bright said, "take the initiative in the power of the Holy Spirit and then trust the results to God." He'll keep working in that person whether you see the fruit or not!

How to Follow Up with Someone after Sharing the Good News with Them!

All of us have been there. You share your faith with someone and then you don't know what step to take next with them. We find ourselves asking, "Should I keep sharing? Would that make things awkward? How can I keep brining up the gospel without sounding like I'm beating a dead horse?" Yes, you should keep sharing and following up with that person. Here are a few great ideas on what to do next. You can check out the training video and MP3 below these ideas. I hope this helps you be more effective at sharing your faith!

Once you've shared your faith with someone:

1. Evaluate how much to keep investing.

2. Pray for this person.

3. Rely on the Holy Spirit to work in their lives.

4. Build a relationship and personal credibility. Be sensitive to their needs and interests. Be personable, relatable, and genuinely interested in them and their interests. Be motivated by AGAPE love.

5. Remember, they do not yet think, talk, or act like a Christian, so do not ignorantly lose your credibility by doing one or more of the following: Do not talk in "heavy" Christian religious language; talk in a normal way. Do not try to communicate too deep, avoid rabbit trails; keep it simple. Do not verbally or non-verbally communicate a standard of performance such as legalism, "rules and regulations," dress codes, language use, or any other “Christian” mannerisms. Avoid legalism. Do not "spiritualize" everything in your conversation; be real with them.

6. Do not get discouraged thinking that you did something wrong when someone doesn’t become a Christian, doesn’t want to meet with you, or starts, but then drops out. Remember, you’re responsible only to be available to let God work through you in His Spirit’s power, trusting results to Him.

7. Intentionally set up an initial appointment. A great idea: invite them to coffee!!!

8. Meet them where they are at (1 Cor.9:19-23). Build common ground.

9. Continue clarifying the gospel.

10. Use other modes (ex. Ministry, Natural and Body).

11. Use other tools and methods (ex. Soularium, your testimony, books, websites, etc.).

12. Encourage them to begin reading the Bible (preferably have them start with the Gospel of John).

And finally, remember the 5 Ps of following up with someone you’ve shared with: be prayerful, patient, perceptive, perseverant and purposed in following up with someone you’ve shared the gospel with.
