MLK day is today! As we reflect on this amazing man's life and all he did, it will also be a great opportunity to share our faith. Before we go any further though, I want to start by saying how thankful I am for this man and all he did to bring our nation to a point of respecting the rights of minorities in our country. I dream of a day when we will give those same rights to the unborn as well. I also pray for more men and women who will take the right stands, the right way and make a bold difference for Jesus in our country. So back to a few evangelism ideas for today. As you talk about MLK day with friends, classmates, co-workers and people you cross paths with today ask a few questions.
The first question could be, "What is your dream?" This might catch people off guard but it will open up an interesting conversation. A 2nd question you could ask might be, "If MLK was alive today, what would he be fighting for?" You might also ask why they think he did what he did - what motivated him. You could bring up his own words to help answer that question, "I just want to do God's will." Once you ask these questions and begin a conversation, work through the sound barriers.
To get through the sound barriers, you might use some of MLK's other quotes. Here are a few that might help you transition: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that." “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality." And finally, "Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men."
Well, I hope that helps. Have a great MLK day!!! Check out the full video of his "I have a dream" speech below!
